Last Day in Ladakh

Hanging some prayer flags at the pass

More gorgeous purple & green mountains

It was another long drive back to Leh. Unfortunately, the alternative route we were meant to take incurred the possibility of severe road damage, which would lead to us having to turn back 7 hrs into the trip, & running out of fuel in the process. So, back the way we came. I felt almost compelled to take as many shots of the mountain landscape as possible, seeing though it was my final full day in Ladakh. Ended up taking around 300 pics.

We stopped about 13 kms outside Leh at Shey Monastery. This used to be the capital of Ladakh, & the Shey Palace & Gompa are quite spectacular – definitely better than the Leh Palace. Inside the Gompa was a 3-storey high golden statue of Maitreya Buddha decked in garments. There was even a statue of Palden Lhamo – a protector deity. And to put the finishing touches on the mood, a monk was there offering prayers.
